We have a carefully planned, thematic approach to teaching and learning, providing enriching cross-curricular studies and rigorous direct subject teaching. This is designed to support individual children’s needs and to stimulate children’s natural curiosity and creativity.
“Hooks and Highlights” are identified to provide memorable learning experiences and rich learning opportunities for high quality learning and wider personal development and well-being, such as trips out of school, dressing up days and inviting visitors/experts into school.
Subjects are organised flexibly through the timetable to meet the needs of the children within each year group.
If you would like to find out more information about our curriculum please read the policies on the ‘Policies and Documents’ tab at the top of the page or please contact the school office.
We take a detailed and rigorous approach to the teaching of phonics and reading. Phonics teaching follows “Letters and Sounds”, a programme which meets the Government’s core criteria for an effective systematic synthetic phonics teaching programme.
Teaching of reading follows a nationally used, colour-coded system relating to National Curriculum levels. Books from a selection of published schemes have been chosen and levelled to give all children a choice of high quality reading texts across a range of genres including traditional tales, poetry and non-fiction.
